Social Studies Resources
Our final unit of Social Studies focuses on thinking as a Citizen of the World. Being a Global Citizen means having a feeling of personal responsibility for others, regardless of where they live. The focus here will be thinking of others, and doing service projects that can help others in your family and the community.

THE KINDNESS ROCKS PROJECT:
While we are home and practicing Social Distancing, here is one service project you can try and still help others. If you do it please take a picture and have your parents share it with us via email, Seesaw, or Remind.
The Kindness Rock Project is where children paint pebbles or rocks and leave them for others to find, and admire. You could try adding some positive messages for others to see. When you are out for a walk with your family leave them around for others to see. If you see one, take a picture- maybe it's one that your classmate made!

Chalk Your Walk: For another fun idea while you’re social distancing, why not create a chalk walk?
The idea behind it is to decorate your front walks with sidewalk chalk with cartoons, positive messages, and more. This idea is gaining popularity and even cities and counties are getting into the idea! If you are part of your neighborhood group on social media you can start a chalk your walk movement. You can take a walk and admire all the positivity in your neighbourhood. If you decorate your walks take a picture and share with us via email, Remind, or Seesaw.

Help seniors or others who are isolated – We may have family members, neighbours or friends who are isolated. Try to make this time easier for them by spreading some positivity and helping where you can. Make regular phone or video call visits to combat social isolation/loneliness for others. Make cards or write letters, emails, or social media messages to seniors in nursing homes who can’t have visitors. Spread the good.
